Canals open for regeneration - Eastside Locks gains approval
BBC News reported on the December 4th Councillors support £450m revamp and the Birmingham Mail reported "Planners riding in to rescue history" on December 6th following Birmingham City Council's Planning Committee approval of the outline applicatio for Eastside Locks.
The planning committee gave outline approval to the scheme with developer Goodman submitting detailed plans to the council in 2009. Clive Dutton, Director of Planning and Regeneration at the City Council has revealed that providing detailed planning permission is given work will begin in the summer of 2010.
The mail reports that the company, Goodman, has also been warned to protect and restore the historic Belmont bicycle factory. The developers have plans for the building, blogged on the 12th November - Cycling into Eastside, for potential office space but will be joined by a 180 bed hotel to the rear.
