Edgbaston Cricket Ground redevelopment - April update II
Here is a further update on the redevelopment of Edgbaston Cricket ground from the 8th April. It follows my previous update of pictures from the 6th April, Edgbaston Cricket Ground redevelopment - April update I.
Meanwhile Hilton Doubletree has announced, Four-star Hilton Doubletree hotel to open at Edgbaston Mill, it will open a 200 bed four star hotel to complete the Edgbaston Mill development across the road from the cricket ground, Edgbaston Mill turns wheel.
The hotel will complete the Edgbaston Mill scheme which was developed in 2003 but which stalled in the recession when potential occupiers including Holiday Inn Express withdrew their interest when HBOS withdrew its funding.
Calthorpe Estates which sold the site on a long lease to Wylam Investments (Edgbaston Holdings) gained planning permission at the end of 2010f for a new hotel, Edgbaston Mill turns wheel.
The 200 bed hotel will include a health club and spa, two restaurants and a coffee shop replacing the earlier Edgbaston Mill scheme and which will now compliment the redeveloped Cricket Ground and the planned Edgbaston Priory cricket centre together with the university and private healthcare.

The scheme will sit alongside the Hemisphere residential scheme, the success of which had bucked the current trend and indicated the importance of the site. “Nobody can underestimate the challenge of selling 300 apartments in the current market,” said Mr Minott. http://www.birminghampost.net/birmingham-business/birmingham-business-news/commercial-property-birmingham/2011/04/08/four-star-hilton-doubletree-hotel-to-open-at-edgbaston-mill-65233-28486730/
