The final literary countdown II

There's now 20 days and a few hours to go until the new Library of Birmingham opens and the excitement is palpable with the much anticipated library to be revealed to the world.

The following video, Circles and Shadows, from Mecanoo gives a tantalising glimpse ahead of it's opening with the light and airy interior and shadows of filagree adding a changing touch to the interior.

Ahead of it's opening final preparations are being made with pre-opening events for customers to help test library services and the facilities and equipment in the new building, http://www.libraryofbirmingham.com/blog/News/customer-soft-testing.  The feedback from the these events should ensure the smooth running of the library.

The following pictures taken around the new Centenary Square fronting the library from Tuesday 13 August show the recent mix of sunshine and showers have allowed the garden to blossom and reflect the beauty of the library in the square.

The square could be seeing it's own makeover soon too with the September City Council Cabinet meeting, http://www.birmingham.gov.uk/democracy/Pages/ForwardPlanDetail.aspx?Item_ID%3d44148, discussing the extension of the Midland Metro to Centenary Square and a design competition for Centenary Square.  Exciting times lie ahead once the new library is open.
