Uber First

Uber celebrates it's one year anniversary in Birmingham today.  Birmingham was the fourth city to have Uber in the UK with over 15 towns and cities now offering it as a choice.

To celebrate Uber's first birthday they have teamed up with local baker Kiss Me Cupcakes to deliver free birthday cupcakes to Uber customers across the city.  From 12pm until 4pm Uber users can open the app and slide to the 'Cake' option to request birthday cakes delivered directly to them.

Since launching the average time it takes from pushing a button to getting a ride has fallen from more than five minutes to under three today.

Over 10% of Birmingham's population have now taken an Uber trip with a quarter of the trips in Birmingham last year taken by visitors to the city.

Riders from 69 different countries have used the app to get a ride.

“Uber has not only transformed the way people get about Birmingham, it has turned the private hire industry on its head. Before Uber I was set shifts and allocated jobs without any transparency. Now I work for myself, I control my hours and Uber gives the job to the nearest car, it’s completely fair. I love the freedom my partnership with Uber has given me.”
Fouzan Ali, General Manager for Uber Birmingham, said:
“I can’t believe it’s been a year since we launched in Birmingham. It’s been a fantastic 12 months in which we have launched four Uber products, and we’re looking forward to getting more people around town as we continue to grow. However the real stars of the show are the thousands of professional drivers that have chosen to partner with us over the last 12 months.”
