White sparkle for winter blues
The Sunday Times Home section had a wonderful article on the beauty of Snowdrops on Sunday 20- January, https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/anna-pavords-guide-to-snowdrops-ffc5npp3p, and it is easy to see why snowdrops are such a wonderful antidote to January blues.
The following photos show snowdrops that have popped up across the Guinea Gardens in Edgbaston, the lovely and last remaining Guinea Gardens of Birmingham named after the cost of renting them at 1 guinea. Originally called The Malthouse Meadows, The Westbourne Road Leisure Gardens were started in about 1848 and today eighty seven plots survive and have a Grade II listing known as The Guinea Gardens.
The photos below are taken on Sunday 20 January 2019 and show the beauty of the snowdrops as they signal spring is on its way after winter and life will return to the allotment and its harvest.
