02 Academy Edits Launch

http://www.billboard.biz/ has reported that Editors To Launch O2 Birmingham Academy with the band being the first headline act to perform at the new Academy on September 10th.

The new Academy was formerly the 45,000sq foot Dome nightclub on Bristol St. The venue replaces the Dale End site which opened in November 2000 which is due for demolition as part of the Martineau Galleries scheme.

"Birmingham was the first city I chose outside of London eight years ago to expand the Academy brand," AMG CEO John Northcote said in a statement. The redevelopment of the former Dome venue has cost £5 million with the overall capacity of the site being 3,859. The Academy will house three venues, a 3,000-plus capacity auditorium, the 600-capacity O2 Academy 2 Birmingham and 250-capcity O2 Academy 3 Birmingham.
