Bus ride to improvement for South Birmingham

National Express West Midlands, the new name for Travel West Midlands, has completed it's review of bus services in South Birmingham with revised routes and timetables, designed to provide easier access to key destinations such as the new Queen Elizabeth Hospital and better links between district centres, due to come into effect on Sunday 25th October.

The review, south-birmingham-bus-network-review-2009, follows continuing changes to the South Birmingham Area with the new Queen Elizabeth Hospital bringing together the Selly Oak and Queen Elizabeth hospitals in Birmingham's first new acute hospital for 70 years which will employ over 16,000 staff (Fast treatment as Queen Elizabeth Hospital nears completion). Meanwhile the Longbridge regeneration aims to create 10,000 jobs and thousands of new homes with work on the new Bournville College likely to increase the need for improved transport links(http://birminghamcentral.blogspot.com/search/label/Longbridge).

South Birmingham will be the third of what are likely to be 15 network review areas across the whole of the West Midlands which are planned for completion by the summer of 2013. The first two network review areas were Dudley and South Solihull. The Dudley network was implemented in April 2008 and has already resulted in a 4 per cent increase in passengers. It is too early to quantify any growth in the Solihull network review as it was only implemented in January 2009. http://www.thestirrer.co.uk/Documents/south-birmingham-bus-network-review-2009.pdf

The review covers the major arterial routes of the Alcester, Pershore and Bristol Roads in an arc area centred on Birmingham's city centre that runs from Warstock in the east to Weoley Castle in the west.
