NEC gambles on future success

On June 8th 2008 I reported that "Genting Stanley, part of the Malaysian Genting Group, has announced a £90 million masterplan to create a casino, hotel, spa, bars and restaurants at the NEC site", NEC Casino.

The £120 million plan has now moved closer with the granting of a large casino premises licence. The development including casino, hotel and cinema is set to span 538,195 sq ft and seven floors and be titled Resorts World at The NEC.

Named Resorts World at The NEC, the proposals also include a spa, conference and banqueting centre, shops, cafes and restaurants, as well as a 300-space car park.
The next step in the long-awaited scheme is an application for planning permission, which is now being prepared for submission to Solihull Council. If approved, the development iwill open in early 2014. http://www.expressandstar.com/news/2011/06/29/birmingham-nec-casino-licence-approved/

The development will sit between the LG Arena and the Crowne Plaza Hotel and follows the £29 million redevelopment of the LG Arena, NEC heads LG which sits in the wider NEC complex which attracts over 3 million visitors a year.
