Chamberlain Hall construction June 2014 update

It's over a month since I reported on the construction of the new Chamberlain Hall of Residence, http://birminghamcentral.blogspot.co.uk/2014/05/chamberlain-hall-rising.html, and work is reaching an exciting stage as the first tower crane should be erected with a crane on site today, Wednesday 18 June, to erect the tower crane.

Last week, commencing 12 June, saw the first section of the tower crane in place while preparation work for the upper level slabs of the first accommodation block were almost complete.  The large bases for the tower block are ongoing with reinforcement cages constructed and concrete being poured to create the foundations on top of the piles.

Photos of the site showing the base of the crane and work on the slabs for the accommodation blocks from Tuesday 17 June are shown below.

Meanwhile south of The Vale on the University Campus work is progressing on the site of the former Gun Barrels pub and South Car Park to prepare for the construction of the new sports centre, http://birminghamcentral.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/campus-clears-way-for-21st-century.html and on the site of the former running pitch in preparation for the new university library.

A photo of the site of the new sports centre from 13 June is shown below:
