Chamberlain Hall construction July 2014 update

It has only been a few weeks since my previous update on the construction of the new Chamberlain Hall, Chamberlain Hall construction June 2014 update, and work is continuing with the crane now erected while construction of the reinforcement cage and formwork around that for the retaining walls of the basement of the tower also happening.

Block B, the middle block has seen a concrete slab poured on top of the pile caps while in Block C, furthest away from the tower, pre-cast concrete walls and slabs have started to be installed and grouted into place.  Bathroom pods for the lower levels of Blocks B and C are on site and will be installed as construction progresses.

The following pictures show the site as of 1 July.

Balfour Beatty's update on works show that next week, week commencing 7 July, will see the casting of concrete walls continue while in Block C more of the pre-cast concrete slabs will be installed.  A mobile crane is due to be set up today in preparation for the tower basement work next week with earthworks around the tower due to commence.

Work also continues on the site of the new University of Birmingham Main Library with work to change the university ring road completed on Monday 30 June running around the north perimeter of the site of the new library.  Further changes to the ring road around the site of the new library are due to take place later in the summer, https://intranet.birmingham.ac.uk/buzz/news/public/June-2014/University-ring-road-closure.aspx
