Looking east from Birmingham

Indian High Commissioner Shiv Shankar Mukherjee has advised West Midlands firms to look east to India with its enormous opportunities to UK business.

During his visit to the Chamber of Commerce and Aston University Mukherjee spoke of the importance of the West Midlands to India with recent investments in Jaguar Land Rover.

The West Midlands is a very important region for us,” he said. “Recently we have seen the high profile acquisition of Jaguar Land Rover by Tata Motors but there is a wealth of activity taking place across many sectors, not just manufacturing.”
He said the development of the Indian financial services sector was offering new opportunities for professions such as accountancy, while the legal sector was also healthy.

Among opportunities for West Midlands firms was India's poor infrastructure.

No5 Chambers, one of Birmingham's leading barristers' needed no invitation to head to India with it's pursuit of opportunities in preparation for the deregulation of India's legal market.

No5 Chambers is working with some of India’s leading legal advisers, Singhania and Co, to stage the ‘India – Gateway to the Future’ conference in New Delhi in April 2009. The event will provide opportunities for UK and Indian lawyers in the UK and India to network and build strategic alliances.
