Clearing the way for University Village

1970s Dalton and Lawrence Towers on Aston University's campus will be demolished on the 8th May 2011 to enable stage two of Aston University's £300 million campus redevelopment to continue. The demolition of the two towers will enable new blocks to be built providing another 1050 en-suite rooms by next year.

The £215 million Aston Student Village project will provide 2,400 new rooms on the campus. 1,300 rooms were completed with phase 1 in 2010 together with an all-weather sports pitch and car parking. The student village project is expected to finish in 2014. The other projects in the university redevelopment include "the construction of the first ‘new build’ University Technical College school in the UK, the Aston University Engineering Academy, which will open in September next year for 14 to 19-year-olds wanting to study engineering and business", http://www.birminghammail.net/news/birmingham-news/2011/04/07/aston-university-towers-to-be-blown-up-as-part-of-regeneration-project-97319-28474058/.
