Library in Poetry

Running from today, 7 March, until 20 March Words of Art is a poetry and portraiture project which features as part of the Library of Birmingham's Cultures Season, http://birminghamcentral.blogspot.com/2014/02/a-gay-birmingham-time.html.

The project by Northfield Arts Form has brought different generations of Northfield residents together with local poets to draw on their visit to and experience or their views on photographs of the new library to create poems.  The poems written by people over 50 have been merged with photographs to create 'words of art'.  The project from Northfield Arts Forum which is a group of artists, arts organisations and venues across the four wards of the District: Weoley Castle, Kings Norton, Northfield and Longbridge.

Words of Art will serve as a way of giving people of different generations the opportunity to talk, work and spend time together and we hope the resultant artwork will embody the relationships between these people, as well as the relationship between LoB and the residents of Birmingham.http://artsforumnorthfield.wordpress.com/2013/09/23/words-of-art/

The picture below is of a selection of postcards that you can find with the exhibition at the Library of Birmingham and which allow you to take the words and the pictures of the title, 'Words of Art' home and perhaps to add your own words and send onwards to perhaps highlight the library as "a giant tin foil flight" or maybe "A Bodleian never to visit" as some of the poets speak of in their poetry.
