Sun shines on Grand entrance - Grand Central opens

Yesterday I was fortunate to be invited alongside the press to the opening of Grand Central shopping centre.

After the Sunday 20 opening of the redeveloped New Street Station, Grand Central was like the icing on the cake for the station and an amazing statement for how Birmingham considers itself, the biggest city outside of London - second to none.

An amazing 80,000 people flocked to the opening day which saw John Lewis open a flagship store, http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/whats-on/shopping/over-80000-people-visit-grand-10131211, and the new Grand Central shopping centre welcome new retailers to Birmingham.

Creating over 1,000 jobs and making the station a true destination in itself the buzz was amazing.

The following photos were taken from the official opening and John Lewis ribbon cutting through to the new shops, restaurants and fabulous John Lewis interior.  Amongst the buzz were artists and performers adding noise and dance to the opening day.

Meanwhile, neighbour Bullring shopping centre is seeing it's own developments with Topshop / Topman redeveloping it's store to create one of the UK's biggest and 'the bull comes alive' adding a disco bull to the bullring until 8 October.

This weekend sees the culmination of the opening of the redeveloped New Street Station and Grand Central shopping centre with the Birmingham Weekender which will follow in the footsteps of the celebration of the new Library of Birmingham opening in 2013 with a series of arts events across the city centre.

An outline of the weekend is shown below, but for more details you should visit
