Birmingham in Pictures XXV - Birmingham Weekender
Last weekend 175,000 people enjoyed the biennial Birmingham Weekender, Brumful of weekender fun, with a cultural extravaganza across the city from Eastside Park, Victoria Square, mac Birmingham and even on the Midland Metro trams themselves.
Over half of those attending events had visited the city especially for the Weekender, http://www.birminghamupdates.com/birmingham-weekenders-return-hailed-as-a-huge-success/. While much of the city was in transformation with the redevelopment of Centenary Square and Midland Metro extension work this did not dampen the enthusiasm or buzz in the air. The next weekender will see regenerated squares and new developments reopening and creating new spaces for culture and the weekender to fill.
This year there were amazing pop up performances by KTO Theatre of Peregrinus, taking TS Eliot's The Hollow Men as inspiration with striking masks.
Elsewhere Grand Central and New Street Station used the new concourse space as a perfect auditorium for performances from the CBSO and ex Cathedra and The Mailbox hosted performances from Birmingham Opera Company and the Bullring from Birmingham Royal Ballet.
The following photos in my Birmingham in Pictures series show some of that amazing weekend.
