Eagle eyed readers of the Supplement to the Official Journal of the European Union, the tendering site for the European Union would have spotted two contract notices for Birmingham New Street Station on the 1st June marking important steps in the long road to it's redevelopment.

2009/S 104-151355 CONTRACT NOTICE – UTILITIES
Supply and Installation of Lifts at Birmingham New Street Railway Station.


The supply and installation of passenger and goods lifts on the Birmingham New Street Station redevelopment project in the centre of Birmingham. The package includes working within the vicinity of station platform and concourse areas in addition to the main station building. Network Rail wishes to procure a Contractor for the supply and installation of passenger and goods lifts, (approx. quantity 30) serving 2 and 3 levels, in connection with the reconstruction/redevelopment of Birmingham New Street Station. The Contractor, working with Network Rail, will be responsible for carrying out the works in accordance with the relevant Network Rail standards. Installation of Escalators at Birmingham New Street Railway Station


Network Rail wishes to procure a Contractor for the manufacture and installation of approx. 37 escalators in connection with the reconstruction/redevelopment of Birmingham New Street Station. The Contractor, working with Network Rail, will be responsible for carrying out the works in accordance with the relevant Network Rail standards. More contracts were reported in the Birmingham Mail on the 8th June - Contracts offered for New Street station works, for electrical services with the tenders covering supply, installation and commissioning of all electrical cabled services including emergency signage, lighting, telecommunications, and security installations and are the first among over 60 for the Birmingham Gateway station project.


The mechanical services contract covers hot and cold water, heating, cooling, gas, ventilation and smoke extract systems, above ground drainage, and all necessary mechanical plant to allow the station to operate.


Successful bidders for the work will work with Network Rail and MACE which clinched the £17 million delivery partner contract in January, beating Balfour Beatty and Carillion.
