Eight down for City Campus
Construction News has reported that there are at least eight contractors in the running for the £100 million contract to build the first phase of Birmingham City University's new campus in Eastside, Eight vie for Birmingham campus job.

The new campus follows plans by the university to concentrate it's art and design courses on a new campus, Outline Application for BCU City Campus, Birmingham City University city-centre campus coming soon.
Phase one work will include site preparation, enabling works, design and construction, as well as fit-out and external works. Demolition of existing buildings and asbestos removal on some plots may be completed before construction begins on 2 August 2010, with completion scheduled for 31 June 2013.
Additional phases of the development will extend the site to 55,000 sq m with Birmingham City University reserving the right to award to any additional phases of the campus development to the successful phase one contractor without a competition.
The new campus is being designed by Associated Architects and will house the Birmingham Institute of Art and Design, the Faculty of Performance Media and English, a library and state-of-the-art teaching spaces and is planned to incorporate a concert hall, a food court and retail centre. Mace have been appointed as project manage. Contractors are expected to start work on site on 2 August 2010, with completion scheduled for 31 June 2013.
