No barriers to progress
The tender for ticket barriers at New Street Station has been launched revealing the scale of the changes to the concourse and the number of barriers to be installed in the redevelopment of New Street Station.
The £3 - £5 million tender, 2010/S 156-241779, requires a contractor to supply and and install 84 automatic ticketing gates, 14 DDA compliant swing turnstile gates and 12 tripod turnstiles with with approx 6 bi-directional motorised DDA swing turnstile for WC access.
The image below shows the barriers seperating the unpaid concourse from the paid concourse.
The tender represents one of over 40 works packages that have been awarded or are due to be tendered for work on the station redevelopment. My earlier post, New Street works continue, noted the award of the tender for demolition of neighbouring Stephenson Tower and works on the Navigation Street bridge. Works on Platform One are currently being undertaken by BAM Nuttall Ltd while the demolition of the NCP car park to create the new concourse are being undertaken by Coleman & Co Ltd.
