Birmingham Beast leads Scottish Invasion

Scottish newspaper the Scotsman has reported on Birmingham Royal Ballet, Britain's second largest ballet company, taking it's acclaimed production of Beauty and the Beast to Edinburgh next week; Beast of Birmingham - The Birmingham Royal Ballet.

Birmingham Royal Ballet, previously the touring company of the Royal Ballet until it's relocation to Birmingham in 1990 has high standards, maintaining those of it's founder Dame Ninette de Valois and bringing critical acclaim to the production which was first staged in 2003.

Alongside Beauty and the Beast, BRB is also bringing a triple bill of Stravinsky ballets to Edinburgh, one with almost 90 performers. Charged with finding dancers who can do Firebird one minute and a frolicking "Court Beast" the next, Bintley says: "We have a high technical standard and that's the bottom line. But beyond that I'm looking for people who can dance – which sounds funny, but there are a lot of people who spend years training and have the technique but can't really dance. I also look for musicality and brains – smart people who can learn quickly.
