Call Centre Focus has reported that Brummies needed to improve speech technology with news that The University of Birmingham is looking for volunteers with the Brummie accent to have their voices recorded to improve speech technology.
The researchers want to record 200 hours of conversation between people who were born and live in the Birmingham region to help improve telephone based speech recognition.

Researchers claim that many automated systems do not take into account the varying regional accents of the UK, and currently work best for those with standard southern British accents.
