Library of Birmingham digs deep

Work is well underway on the new Library of Birmingham following the granting of planning permission on 26th November 2009, Birmingham Council approves Mecanoo library, with works currently on excavating the basement level.

The basement level, which can be seen alongside other floor plans, More chapters of Library Planning Application, will extend into Centenary Square.



Concrete piles were installed in February, below ground, for the foundation and the basement area is currently being excavatated. Birmingham City Centre Neighbourhood Forum reports that Simon Dingle, Operations Director for Carrilion, has said that this stage is expected to take 12 weeks with lorries taking the earth to another site, Library of Birmingham – Digging out the Basement.
