University Hospital Plaza Progress

Work continues on the new University Hospital Birmingham Plaza, as seen in the pictures below from 29 August.  Work is expected to be completed in November 2012 and has involved the construction of pedestrian space between the Medical School, University of Birmingham, University train station and new Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

As the photos show new paving is being installed together with new bus stops and there will be new street furniture together with the part-reconstruction of the ramparts of the original Metchley Roman Fort.  The plaza area is a Scheduled Ancient Monument, Weekly Cabinet Report 16th August 2012 - Birmingham City Council

The plans, Queen Elizabeth Hospital Plaza and Transport Interchange, will see the interchange act as the main gateway to the new hospital between different transport modes of walking, cycling, buses and trains.
