Pride in Southside
Last Wednesday, 14 May, saw Southside Showcase the Southside business improvement district's (BID) network event take place at Centre City with local businesses networking and showcasing what the business district has to offer. The event which is held monthly, http://www.birminghampost.co.uk/business/business-news/birminghams-southside-showcase-business-network-5667811, enables local businesses to network and the venue of Centre City allowed a view of the nearby John Lewis store which sits at the northern boundary of the BID's boundary together with the rest of the BID area stretching towards China Town, the Gay Village and the Markets.

One of the speakers at the event gave a presentation on the new Beijing to Birmingham flight package which sees Birmingham as the first UK airport outside of London to launch direct charter flights to China. The extension of Birmingham Airport's runway, http://birminghamcentral.blogspot.com/2009/06/bia-runway-approval-starts-ambitious.html, has allowed flights to reach China and direct flights will run between July 22 to August 6. UK residents wishing to visit China can take advantage of 'seat only' tickets and package holidays with a 15 day tour package holiday available from only £999pp exclusively through Birmingham based United Travel.
ChangeKitchen, a Community Interest Company (CIC), provided tasty food for those attending showcasing their social enterprise company which provides fully vegetarian food with dishes inspired by cuisines from around the world for events.
Meanwhile south of Centre City on Hurst Street Birmingham Pride will celebrate it's 18th year on Saturday 24 to Sunday 25 May as one of the UK's biggest Pride festivals which brings an estimated £15-20 million of economic benefit to the city.
