Chamberlain Hall rising
It's been nearly three months since I reported on the near completion of the demolition of Chamberlain Hall, the University of Birmingham former student hall of residence, http://birminghamcentral.blogspot.com/2014/02/chamberlain-fallen.html. With the site cleared work has begun on piling for the foundations of the new hall of residence with work clearly visible on the foundations of the three blocks that will extend into the Vale like fingers.
An image of the blocks extending into the Vale from an earlier blog article, http://birminghamcentral.blogspot.co.uk/2013/11/replacing-chamberlain-hall.html
The following pictures from 8 May show current construction work on the site.
South of the Vale and the University of Birmingham Campus, work has rapidly taken place to build a five storey block on the Bristol Road which replaces the Selly Oak Motor Company office. The block which will house 66 student flats together with restaurant and retail space on the ground floor now adds to the streetscape of the Bristol Road, http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/local-news/plans-for-selly-oak-student-block-188200#ixzz209cWAaZ2
Planning images of the block from the planning application, , are reproduced below.
Photos of the block under construction from 8 May are shown below.
