College saves money to get LSC approval

Bournville College's plan to move to Longbridge to anchor the redevelopment,(College approval starts rebirth of Longbridge, Bournville College to sweeten Longbridge), will take place after the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) approved it's plan following a funding debacle that saw it approve 79 projects costing £2.7 billion when it had only £2.3 billion to spend.

Each of these colleges were asked to cut costs from their initial plans and examine other possible sources of funds, while maintaining planned benefits for students and enabling construction to proceed rapidly.http://www.building.co.uk/story.asp?storycode=3147659&origin=bldgdailynewsletter#ixzz0PUH4VqAe

The approval came after Bournville College made revisions to it's plans and the LSC gave final approval for funding. The new college designed by architects Broadway Malyan has been slimmed down from £84 million to £73 million. Approval was also given to Sandwell College's new campus plans in West Bromwich with the two projects being amongst just 12 approved by the LSC following shortlisting in June and chosen because of the regenerative nature of their schemes.

Sutton Coldfield College’s planned new £42 million campus meanwhile in Perry Barr was one of dozens of schemes that missed out after the LSC largely ran out of funding, http://www.birminghampost.net/news/west-midlands-news/2009/08/31/sandwell-college-gets-final-learning-and-skills-council-approval-for-new-campus-in-west-bromwich-65233-24568803/
