New Street Station September Update

Here is an update on the New Street Station redevelopment. Network Rail have produced a poster update, shown below, on hoardings in the Pallasades Shopping Centre which are hiding the work taking place.

Network Rail have also produced stunning new images of the new station from the flythrough which allow a detailed view of the plan of the station from the glass barriers between the unpaid and paid concourses to the new square fronting the bullring, Station to reflect changes as tower falls.

Behind the hoardings in the Pallasades Station 20,000 tons of concrete will be removed to create a new atrium which will span 3,300 square metres, about the same as 13 Wimbledon Centre Courts, and will be as high as eight double decker buses.

Below is a view of demolition works on the former sports outlet on the Pallasades roof to allow a section of the concrete to be removed for light to reach the concourse.

The deconstruction of Stephenson Tower continues with construction of the new John Lewis store in it's place beginning in spring 2012.

Work has rapidly progressed as can be compared with this first first view from June.
