Calthorpe's Edgbaston Renaissance

Calthorpe Estates continues it's renaissance of Edgbaston with two more schemes gaining planning approval and appointing contractors.

CNplus.co.uk reports on the approval of Calthorpe's £4.5 million office and retail development, 54 George Road; Birmingham set for new office and retail development.

The 15,000 sq ft development includes five floors of office accommodation with retail space on the ground floor.
GVA Grimley has been appointed letting agents for both the office and retail elements of the scheme, which is situated close to Five Ways railway station.

Calthorpe Estates director of development Ralph Minott said: "George Road is an excellent location close to the city centre, with great accessibility and transport links – the scheme will create a modern glass-fronted building and a new landmark on a major route into the city."


The second Calthorpe Estates Scheme is extension of five storey 100 Hagley Road on the Hagley Road to six storeys together with energy efficiency improvements and the replacement of all windows; Shaylor Contruction wins £12m Hagley Road job. The £12 million scheme, managed by Edmond Shipway, has appointed Shaylor Construction as the main contractor with an expected completion date of Autumn 2009.



Edmond Shipway's head of project management (Birmingham) David Clarke said: "The aim of the scheme is to refurbish this existing building and return it to prominence on the gateway to the city. Improving its external appearance will create a landmark building that achieves the highest rating in terms of sustainability."
