Birmingham and Glasgow share 56th spot for quality of life

The Mercer Quality of Living global city rankings are out for 2009 and show Birmingham sitting jointly with Glasgow in 56th for it's quality of life, http://www.mercer.com/referencecontent.htm?idContent=1173105.

Birmingham retains it's 56th position from 2008, dropping from 55th in 2003 (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/2813565.stm). The score is calculated from 39 different criteria such as political stability to transport network.

Rising up the rankings is one of the ambitions of Birmingham City Council as part of it's wider Big City Plan initiative but startling perhaps considering the transport hiccups the Greater Birmingham area suffers and why Manchester isn't in the table of cities ranked for their quality of life.
