Birmingham's Royal Estate
Amongst Birmingham's landowners and building freeholders it seems the Crown Estate owns a key row of retail premises on New Street. In March 2006 the Crown Estate bought 140-145 New Street, the refurbished row of shops containing Adidas, Schuh and the Royal Bank of Scotland, for £21.75m.

So what is the Crown Estate?
The Crown Estate is a property portfolio, historically the posession of the monarch, which transfers it's income to the Exchequer.
It's also a very large estate with it's property portfolio worth over £7 billion comprising forest, parkland, forest, coastline, shops, homes and offices.

This is a prime retail site in the centre of Birmingham adjacent to the redeveloped Bullring site. These acquisitions are important long-term investments and will contribute to The Crown Estate’s future financial performance.http://www.thecrownestate.co.uk/anrep/2006/busrev/urbanestate/index.html
