City Park Gate Approved
Following my earlier post on Quintain submitting a planning application for City Park Gate, Gateway to City - Quintain submits planning application for City Park Gate, Birmingham City Council has approved the planning application with Clive Dutton, Director of planning and regeneration adding it was a "significant milestone for the city centre fringe of Eastside and a real fillip for the city in these challenging economic times" (http://www.birminghammail.net/2008/10/24/100-million-city-park-gate-development-ready-97319-22108416/).

The approval marks the first phase of the 92,900 m2 City Park Gate project which will include a hotel, retail space and new homes in later stages. Contract Journal reports that City Park Gate development director Ben Giddens said it's aim was to "transform Birmingham in the same way that Canary Wharf has drawn London’s commercial heart towards the east” (http://www.contractjournal.com/Articles/2008/10/24/61715/quintains-birmingham-regeneration-project-approved.html).
Although approved, an immediate start is not planned until the economy improves, but approval means the site is ready for the future and should help Birmingham bounce out of the current economic woes with fresh developments aimed at attracting businesses and cementing Birmingham's reputation as the place to do business.
