End of the line for Wrexham and Shropshire
Friday 28th January saw the end of the Wrexham and Shropshire Railway, which had been reinstated in 2008 allowing connections between Wrexham and London for the first time in 41 years, Wrexham to London, 41 year late.
The closure followed a decision that the business had no prospect of reaching profitability and providing a return on investment meaning there are only two open access operators on the UK rail network, Grand Central and Hull Trains. Despite it's closure the company was not insolvent and not placed in administration.

WSR suffered from not being allowed to stop at Birmingham New Street and Coventry, despite passing through both stations, and not being able to offer a full Wolverhampton service, being able to pick up in one direction and set down in another. http://rail-news.com/2011/01/26/wrexham-and-shropshire-to-run-their-last-train-on-friday/
